L'Introduction
November 11, 2018
Hey, it's me- your favorite weirdo. Yes, I'm wearing a t-shirt under my dress. Yes, my dress is from 1995. And yes, those are the same converse that I've had since I was 15 years old and desperately need to replace. But guess what? Issa look. May seem a little strange and unusual to see in a sea of jorts and crop tops in South Florida, but that's kind of my M.O. - Strange and Unusual.
I came across the term gamine from a co-worker. She called me this when I had worn a black sweater and beret to work (most people were in flip flops and Lily Pulitzer)- I asked her what it meant and she said, "Oh you know, a young stylish girl like Audrey Hepburn". The official definition is a little more than that: "a diminutive girl, especially one who is pert, impudent, or playfully mischievous." That sounds a little more like me.
I never liked the idea of being contained, aesthetically or interest-wise. I enjoy horror films and heavy metal music, but dislike the idea of having to wear a leather jacket and a band t-shirt 24 hours of the day to prove that I do so. I absolutely adore makeup, skincare, and fashion (much to the dismay of my wallet), but I am not fond of having to avoid my subcultural interests in order to fit in with the Instagram beauty bloggers and hipster fashionistas. To me, a gamine is not one thing. She is many things. She is everything. She seeks what she wants and challenges the status quo in all aspects of life, putting her happiness above all else- all while having a bit of fun.
This platform welcomes and embraces all things strange, unusual and wild- but it also wants those who read to know that inspiration comes from everywhere and as long as it brings you happiness, it should be shared.
